Marula Seedpod

R 0.00

The Latin name for this tree is Scelerocarya birrea. Archeological evidence shows the Marlua tree was a source of nutrition as long ago as 10 000BC. Both the fruit and the nut are rich in minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin C. The leaves are used to relive heartburn, and amongst many other medicinal uses, the bark is also used as a malaria prophylactic. Possibly though, it is most well known as the fruit that “drives elephants mad” - as they eat the fermented fruit that has dropped onto the ground and get drunk.
